Spiller beat Mr R. Wilkins, 9-7. Men's Handicap Singles.—Mr H. M’Padden (owe 26) beat Mr J. Milne (rec 4-6), 9-6. ST MARY'S CHURCH, ADDINGTON. The monthly meeting of the Mothers’ Union was well attended and a very interesting lecturettc was given by Mrs Hervey, of Shirley. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker at the conclusion of her address. ADDINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOL. The parents of the pupils attending the State school, will be pleased to hear that an up-to-date heating system is being installed in the main school, and will be available for use when the school re-opens. This is the result of the persistent efforts of the school committee, who have had to guarantee a fair proportion of the cost of the installation. A certain sum from last year’s fair was set aside for this purpose, and the committee will require the co-operation of the parents in raising the remainder of the guarantee. PERSONAL. The vicar. Canon W. S. Bean, of St Mary’s Church, Addington, is spending a holiday at Parnassus. Mr and Mrs Vivian Line, of “ Katoomba,” Kipling Street, are spending a holiday at Little River. Mr W. Pickering, of Poulson Street, has returned, after a holiday in Akaroa. LINCOLN ROAD METHODIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY. Anniversary services in connection with the Lincoln Road Methodist Church were celebrated on Sunday last. The special preachers for the dav were Revs 11. J. Orbell, W. T. Blight, 8.A., and S. J. Werren. The choir, conducted by Mr J. 11. Jones, sang special music, and Mrs Wicks presided at the organ. During the afternoon, members of the Sydenham Methodist Church choir, in charge of their choirmaster, Mr Hugh M’Caffrcy, rendered a number of items. Celebrations were continued on Wednesday evening, when a church rally and concert was held, Rev A. Liversedge presiding. A programme was given by Mrs Beryl Windsor, Master Gordon Windsor, Miss Ivy Brown (recitations), Misses E- II ore and M. Trevor-Smith (piano duet), Mrs Drewitt, Mrs W. Fehsenfeld, Messrs J. M'Lean and F. Olds (songs) and a quartette by party. During an interval the treasurer, Mr J. Voss, made a statement of finance, which showed the church to be in a very good position. Rev Liversedge reviewed the various church activities, and returned thanks for the splendid assistance given by various departments and officers. Reference was also made to the retirement of Mr J. Steel, who for a long period had acted as treasurer of the church, and had carried out his duties with commendable ability and vote of thanks to all who had assisted in the success of the anniversary. Supper was served by the ladies.
