FOUR MILLIONAIRES BACK GOVERNOR SMITH.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, May 16. Four millionaire supporters of Governor Al. Smith, a candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination, told the Senate committee which is investigating candidates’ expenses that the only limitation on future contributions to Mr .Smith’s campaign would be their capacity to keep on giving. Their combined fortunes were worth at least 100,000,000 dollars. They stated that they would back him for all they had. “All he’s got to do is to say he wants it.” They stated that, they wished for no compensation in the event of Mr Smith being elected. Their apparent assurance that.he would be President was so great.that it amused the committee. They continued that they made donations only because of their long friendship with Mr Smith. Mr William Kenny donated 75,000 dollars, a part of which is reported to be. a loan, but Mr Kenny stated that he gave, the total sum, and will give more.—Australian Press Association.
