RADIO LISTENERS CONCERNED OVER BROADCAST MERGER
TWO SYDNEY STATIONS ENTER COMBINE. (United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received Mav 17. 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, May IT. The broadcasting merger is causing concern among listeners. It is announced that both A Class stations in Sydney, namely, 2FC and 2BL, have been acquired by a new company called the New South Wales Broadcasting Company, Ltd., which is composed of representatives of large department stores, theatrical interests and one newspaper.—Australian Press Association. The move to combine broadcasting interests is a fairly widespread one in Australia. Some time ago 3LO, Melbourne, acquired an interest in 2FC, and is therefore now also interested in 2BL as a result of the new merger. 3LO also has merged with 3AR, a B Class station in Melbourne, and with 7ZL, Hobart, Tasmania. An interest in the Perth broadcasting station 6WF has also been acquired by 3LO, which thus has a say in the management of five other stations. So far Adelaide and Brisbane are outside the ring. Brisbane (4QG), however, is owned and operated by the Queensland Government.
