SUNDAY OBSERVED AS A BANK HOLIDAY.

DIFFICULTIES FACING THE CHURCH IN LONDON. “One of the greatest difficulties facing the churches in England to-day is the non-observance of the Sabbath by a large section of the community,” said the Rev F. B. Allen, of Southwark, London, in an interview this morning, bank holiday in London. I lived close to a great sports ground, and , from early on a Sundaj*- morning unm late in the afternoon huge crowds of men arrived to engage in football or cricket, according to the season. Obviously, this had a distracting influence on the young people in the' neighbourhood, and many were being lost to the Church. The London County Council permits sports gatherings to be held and the picture theatres are also open on Sundays in many of the London boroughs.”
