MARRIAGE BETTER THAN TEACHING, HE DECLARES.

(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, May 17. “ I am afraid we We helpless in the matter,” said Mr A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, yesterday, when Mr J. Patterson drew attention to the case of a young woman teacher who found herself unable to receive grading marks as she had not been through the Training College. Mr Patterson said that the teacher had been twelve months as a probationer, but did not wish to enter the college and bind herself to teaching for three years, as she was contemplating marriage. “ She will have a worse bond then,” remarked Mr Burns. “It will be better than teaching at any rate,” replied a member. Mr Patterson was advised to approach the Minister of Education.
