MEAT EXPORTERS CLOSE DOWN WORKS.
1500 MEN RENDERED IDLE IN QUEENSLAND AS RESULT OF DISPUTE. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received Mav 17, 10 a.m.) BRISBANE, May 17. Meat exporting companies in southern Queensland have decided to cease operations for the present owing to a dispute with the slaughterers, who refuse to comply with the award conditions. About a thousand men will be idle, -and these will probably be increased to 1500, apart from the loss of trucking on the railways.—Australian Press Association.
