The friend got another ring about twenty minutes later, when the lodging-house-keeper informed him that Dorrans had locked himself in his room and was taking poison. He hurried to the house and met Dorrans at the bathroom door. Dorrans drank a glass of water and walked into the bedroom and fell on the~bed.
