Between three o’clock and daybreak on Monday, rain descended in such a fashion as to convince everyone that a cloud-burst had occurred in the vicinity. Very soon a wall of water, the highest since the flood of 1927, was sweeping down the valley from the direction of the three bridges Miles of fences were swept away. Some places were 16 feet under water. Several sellers suffered heavy losses, one having 500 sheep drowned, the total damage being £I2OO. Another lost 32 prime cattle, which ■were just ready for the market.
