Miss Maude Rovden is the guest of Lady Chapman while in Wellington. The Hon Colonel Smith. M.L.C., and Mrs Smith, Opawa, are visitors to AuckMiss Cherry Smith is the guest of Dr and Mrs A. Paterson, Dyer’s Pass Road, Cashmere Hills. Miss Ellen Olliver, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs H. Studholme, Rossall Street. Miss Marjorie Studholme, Merivale, who was spending a few days with Mrs W. Cunningham. View Hill, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. Allison, Opawa, have returned /to Christchurch from the West Coast. Mr and Mrs R. L. Macalister (Wellington) and Mr and Mrs E. 11. Sime (Hororata) are guests at the United Service Hotel. Mrs and Miss Callander, of England, who were spending a few days in Christchurch, left this morning for Waiho Gorge. The engagement is announced of Lett3*, only daughter of Mrs Benjamin and the late Ernest D. Benjamin, of “Greywood,” Dcvonport, to Henry Davis, only son of Mr and MriTTlciiry J. Raphael, of Christchurch. Latest arrivals at the Hotel Federal include:—Miss R. Thompson (Timaru), Mr M. Johnstone, Mr James B. Paton (Greymouth), Mr A. L. Heatherstone (Invercargill), Mr J. Murgatroyd (Balmoral), Dr and Mrs Hector (Wellington), Mr S. F. Murgatroyd (Balmoral), Mrs A. Pile (Dunedin), Mrs E. A. Connor (Karamea), Mr and Mrs R. S. Kane (Morven). The St John Ambulance Brigade held a successful social evening in the new rooms, Tisdall’s Buildings, Cashel Street, on Saturday, approximately seventy couples being present. A most enjoyable eveiling was spent, items being given by Messrs Eric Gray, M’Kay, Campbell Brown, A. Dey, T. White, Aleen and the Beckenham Male Quartette. Mrs Price officiated at the piano, and Mr L. Cummings as a highly efficient M.C. The brigade members are hard at work preparing for the sub-district competitions, which are to be held in King Edward Barracks on Saturday afternoon, May 26. A social will be held in the brigade rooms in the evening, when trophies will be presented to the successful competitors.
