FARMER CLAIMS BIG DAMAGES IN CASE ALLEGING SLANDER

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. May 17. In the Supreme Court today the case is proceeding in which Joseph Maher is suing Leslie Johnsdn. an advertising agent of Upper Ilutt, for £ISOO for alleged slander. It is alleged that Johnson said:— “I know where those heifers are. The milk has gone into some of Jim Maher’s cans, an dthe earmarks of the heifers have ben tampered with.” Mr Justice Ostler is on the Bench. Plaintiff, a former, said that he met defendant about two years ago. and agreed to stock his swamp lands for him. It was the removal of some cattle from this land which had given rise to the case.
