POLICE FIND A DOOR DISGUISED AS MIRROR.

HIDDEN BAR KEPT BUSY IN LONDON NIGHT CLUB. LONDON, March 4. A police raid on the Silver Slipper Club, Regent Street, W., where the dance floor is of glass illuminated from underneath, was described at Marlborough Street yesterday. Before Mr Mead were Eustace Hoey and David Frost, who were summoned for selling intoxicating drink without a justice’s license, and after the permitted hour. Mr Herbert Muskett, for the Commissioner of Police, said the club proper was situated in the basement only. Describing the visit of a police constable to the club, Mr Muskett said the constable, accompanied by a woman friend, had supper in the basement, but no intoxicating liquor was to be seen. No Books Kept. He was told drinks “ were going ” in the bar. He went through a doorway. and found a number of people drinking, the time being after midnight. On a subsequent occasion a waiter was on guard at the door, unlocking it when people wished to enter for refreshments. Superintendent Moreton described the raid, and said that the door of the bar had the appearance of a cracked mirror. Unless he had known of the existence of the door he would never have realised that it was there. Mr Muskett added that Iloey told the superintendent that he was the sole proprietor of the club, and paid £ISOO a year rent. He kept no books. The summonses were adjourned.
