OPPOSE EXTENSION OF FACILITIES FOR DIVORCE.
RESOLUTION PASSED BY ANGLICAN SYNOD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 2S. The Anglican Synod to-day elected the Standing Commission as follows: — The Primate. Archbishop Averill, Archdeacon Williams. * Archdeacon Simkin. Messrs Tunks and Hogben. These were the only nominees. A memorial from the Dominion Council of the Mothers’ Union was presented. The resolutions attached were carried, these being (1) that an expression of sympathy with the objects of the Mothers’ Union be recorded, especially in its endeavour to create healthier home life: (2) that apprehension be expressed at the increase in the number of divorces in New Zealand and that a protest be entered against an extension of any further facilities for divorce; (3) that the age of marriage, now fourteen for boys and twelve for girls, be raised to sixteen for both sexes; and (4) that these resolutions be conveyed to the Prime Minister.
