MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr C. R. Orr-Walker. S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A statutory first offender was fined 10s. in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, and was ordered to pay cab hire-. ONLY ONE LEG. Claude Alex.- Basil Martin pleaded guilty to drunkenness and not guilty to a charge of casting offensive matter in a public place. Sub-Inspector Fitzpatrick said that Martin had been once previously convicted for drunkenness. Martin, who stood in the dock supported by crutches, said that he had had a few drinks with some returned soldiers. As he had only one leg, he had fallen down. “I am starting work on Monday, your Worship, and ask for a chance,” concluded Martin. At his own consent, a prohibition order was issued against Martin. On the second charge he was convicted and discharged. “I warn you not to come up for a breach of your prohibition order,” said the Magistrate as Martin left the dock. HOTELKEEPER FINED. For opening the Sandridge Hotel after hours, and selling liquor, Oscar Verner Edgen (Mr Connall) was lined £5 and costs. REMANDED. The case of Cecil Boby, who appeared for sentence on a charge of using obscene language, was held over till April 30. ADJOURNED. A charge against Harry Joseph Betts, of being unlawfully on the licensed premises of the Grosvenor Hotel, was adjourned till May 7. CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) PRINTER’S CLAIM. Fuller Bros., printers, of 588, Colombo Street, Christchurch (Mr Brown) claimed from F. H. Patterson, trading as Coo tarn undra Cycle Works, 484, Papanui Road, Christchurch, the sum of £3, allegedly due for goods sold and delivered by plaintiff to defendant. Judgment for the full amount claimed was awarded plaintiff. BREACH OF AWARD. The Inspector of Awards claimed from John Griffin the sum of £2O for two alleged breaches of the Licensed Hotel Employee’s Award. Judgment was given plaintiff for £2.
