“It’s a bit of a rough joke,” said a member of the General Committee of the* Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday, when the secretary presented a signed letter inviting a Kaikoura man to act as judge at the last show. The letter was signed by a person whom no one at the meeting knew. It had a typewritten heading: “Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association,” and the date was October 28, 1927. The addressee was invited to judge the cobs and ponies at the Royal Show, to be commenced twelve days after the writing of the letter. “It’s a crude joke, all right,” said another member. “The addressee should have dropped to it that, any official invitation would have been sent much sooner than twelve days before the show.”
