A TRADE BOOM IS PREDICTED IN CHINA.
COMMISSION SET UP TO INAUGURATE THE TARIFF AUTONOMY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received March 7. 9.45. am.) SHANGHAI, March 6. A commission, headed by Pan-fu, the Premier, and including Mr Wellington Koo, former plenipotentiary in London, and twelve prominent northern adherents, has been appointed by the Pekin Government to arrange for the introduction of Customs autonomy, beginning next year. The mandate, issued in conjunction with the Commission’s appointment, declares that the restoration of tariff autonomy has a very important bearing on the preservation of China’s sovereignty. Sir Miles Lampson. British Minister at Pekin, and now at Shanghai, is returning from a tour of South China, where he has been studying the situation. He reports improvements in the trade outlook, and predicts a boom shortly.—Australian and N.Z. Press Association.
