BOARD DISCUSSES AFFAIRS OF PORT.

A meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board to-day was attended by Messrs R. Galbraith (chairman), W. J. Walter, W. G. Gallagher. F. Ilorrell, J. R. Havward, W. J. Miller, W. T. Lester, E. J. Howard, M.P., W. K. M’Alpine, H. Holland, M.P., J. Storry, the Hon R. Moore, M.L.C., and Captain Munro. The Finance Committee reported that the total ordinary receipts for the first two months of 1928 were £21,626 11s 4d, compared with £17,545 7s 4d for the corresponding period of last year. The bank book showed the Harbour Fund Account to be in debit £16,916 15s 7d. The unpaid accounts to be passed for payment amounted to £1956 Os lid, which would increase the overdraft to £18,872 16s 6d, against which was offset the credit balance in the special renewal fund, £22,061 11s 6d. The acting-engineer’s report, which was adopted, contained the following clause:—ln view of the time which must necessarily elapse before delivery of cranes from England for No. 3 jetty-, I beg to recommend that tenders be called for four 5-ton electric portal cranes for No. 3 jetty, to be delivered in instalments of two each, timed to suit progress of the reconstruction and enlargement of the jetty'.
