Miss Gwen Nottingham. “ Woodbank," Halswell, has left for a motor tour of the West Coast. Mrs H. R. Smith, St Andrew’s Square, has returned to Christchurch, after spending a holiday in Wellington. Mrs Arthur Dixon, of Woodbury, is visiting her sister, Miss Jessie Mackay, Cashmere. Mrs S. 11. Smedley and Miss F. Jennings, of Rangiora, are spending a few days at Kaikoura. Mrs Fulton, who has been the guest of her son, Dr Noel Fulton, of Ashburton, returned south on Friday. Mrs W. Simm and Mrs W. H. Gibson, of Wellington, are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr and Mrs Aubry (Picton), Mr and Mrs Erik Rutherford (Inverness) and Mr and Mrs Claude Thirkeld (London) are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs Chapman (Dunedin), Mrs F. M. Dennehy (Greymouth), Miss Newman (Nelson) and Miss IT. Lynn (Wellington) are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs V. A. Coyle (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Walter Lyon, Mr and Mrs Pilkington and Mr and Mrs Main (Melbourne) are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. The engagement is announced of Olga, younger daughter of Mrs and the late Joseph Wacked, of Christchurch, to Cyril, elder son of Mr and Mrs John F. Poulton, also of Christchurch. The engagement is announced of Eleanor A. M. (Ella), youngest daughter of Mrs Willcox and the late J. F. Willcox, of Christchurch, to Mervyn, youngest son of the Rev A. C. and Mrs Lawrv, of Timaru. Mrs W. 11. Symes (Worcester' Street West), who has been visiting Miss Gladys Sommerville in Wellington, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Miss Sommerville has gone south to visit friends in Dunedin. An enjoyable tennis match was olayed last Wednesday between Amberlev and the Fendalton B team, on the Fendalton courts. Fendalton won by about 35 games. Amberley was represented by Mrs Sheer, Misses Kingchurch, Pain, Chamberlain, M’Kellar, Studholme, Westenra and Raymond; and Fendalton by Mesdames Steed, Stewart, Steere, Wilson, Misses Jludkin, Partridge, Deal and Skurr. The Oxford W.C.T.U. met on Wednesday afternoon in the Coronation Hall, the president being in the chair. A letter was received from the Oxford A. and P. Association, asking the W.C.T.U. to cater for the forthcoming show. It was decided to do so, and preliminary arrangements were discussed. The secretary gave a brief account of the North Canterbury District Executive meeting. It was agreed to forward £1 Is as a donation to the funds of the executive. No speaker having been found available to address the special meeting in March, it was decided to postpone it till after the show. It was decided to send a delegate to the Dominion Convention. The president read some extracts from the “Vanguard” relating to the physi cal effect of alcohol. A party was held recently at the residence of Mr and Mrs Smith, 208, Madras Street, in honour of the twentyfirst birthday of their friend, Mr A. (Hock) Daley. A delightful evening was spent in music and games, after which supper was served, the tables being decorated with spring flowers. Mr Smith presented the guest of the evening with the customary gold key. Among those present were:—Mesdames T. Smith, J. Smythe, Wills and Cutler, Misses E. Smith, I. and P. Shearman (Wellington), I.
