LATE SOCIAL NEWS.
Mr and Mrs F. Furneaux, of Wanganui. are the guests of Mrs J. Bundy, Lyttelton. Mrs Harold Gardiner, Purau, has returned to Lyttelton from a holiday visit to Honolulu. The All Sports Dance Assembly will hold their usual jazz dance in the Jellicoe Hall this evening, commencing at 8.30 p.m. Teddy Jones’s orchestra will supply the music. Dancing will be permitted on the lawn. There was a large attendance at the jazz carnival dance held by the All Sports Assembly in the Jellieoe Hall on Saturday evening. Teddy Jones’s band supplied excellent music. The singing of Les Stewart was much appreciated by those present. ALBERT HALL. The Albert Hall is fast becoming a very favourite rendezvous for discriminating dancers. On Saturday evening. despite counter-attractions and the warmth of the evening, 150 dancers were present. Although there was no official carnival, the gaiet}' of the dancers reached carnival standard. Les Grummitt and his Cabaret Band supplied exhilarating music. They played several new numbers for the first time in Christchurch. The second heat of the New Zealand ballroom championship was decided, the winners being Miss N. Newell and Mr C. Jones. The management announced that a dance would in future be held in the hall every Saturday evening at eight o’clock, with music by Les Grummitt i and his Cabaret Band. WEDDINGS. BEN N E TT—B E EVO R. A quiet wedding was celebrated at St Matthew’s Church. St Albans, this morning, when Miss Nancy Beevor was married to Mr Robert Lawson Bennett. The bride is the second daughter of Mr and Mrs R. J. Beevor, St Albans, Herts, England, and the bridegroom is the only son of Mr and Mrs R. B. Bennett, Eversleigh Street, St Albans. Canon Hamilton officiated at the ceremony. The. bride, who was given away by Mr R 11. Livingstone, wore a becoming frock of pewenche blue crepe de chine, fashioned on simple lines, and trimmed with hand-hemstitching. Her hat of crinoline straw to tone had a wide drooping brim and she carried a posy of blue and deep cream flowers. Mr J. O P. Watt attended t.he bridegroom as best man. Following the ceremony Mrs Bennett entertained a few intimate friends at her home, and was wearing a frock of navy blue georgette with an inset vest of beige georgette, and a smart navj r blue hat. When the bride left for her wedding trip, she was wearing a smartly tailored kasha coat over a blue model frock, with a hat to tone.
