ENGLISH PARK SPORTS.

To th© Editor. Sir, —I am greatly disappointed at the action of the North Canterbury Cycling Union in granting English Park for a sports meeting to be held by the Christchurch Club for’ members of its club only. I understand that the union’s rules say that half the races must be open. This club is not complying with these rules, so why does the centre grant them the ground for a meeting of this kind? Ever since its formation, about six months ago, the Christchurch Club has more or less held the centre at defiance. At the beginning of the season, the club went out on strike and refused to allow its members to ride unless certain concessions were given them. Now they are using the bludgeon over riders who are not members, and unless they join this club they will not be able to compete at Wednesday’s meeting. I think the centre is a weak-kneed body if it does not stand loyal to the riders who stood loyal to it when the strike was on, and 1 also think the Christchurch Club shows a poor sporting spirit in showing revenge on riders who would not participate in the strike. If this is the way cash cycling is controlled, tjie sooner the amateur body takes control the better it will be for sport. I have been following cycling for years, but tactics of this description will keep me away from meetings in the future, as no doubt'it will many others as well.— I am, etc., PLAY THE GAME.
