Mr S. E. Rockwell (Sydney) is staying at Warner’s. Mr H. Yeo (Sydney) is a guest at the Clarendon. The Hon Dr W. E. Collins, M.L.C, leaves Wellington to-day by the Ruahine for a trip to the Old Country . Mr A. L. Hunt, of Wellington, left by the Maunganui on a business visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr and Mrs Wilford leave by the Ulimaroa on Februarv 10 for Shanghai to see their son. Then they go' via Canada to London. Mr Wilford will be back in time for next session. Captain H. C. F- C. Parker, of London, a retired naval officer, arrived at Auckland thfe week by the Marama, and with his wife and family will probably settle in New Zealand. Mr O. F. Nelson and Mr A. G. Smyth, who recently left the mandated territory of Western Samoa, in pursuance of a deportation order issued by the Administrator (Sir George Richardson), have arrived in Wellington. Mr J. Hinchliffe, proprietor of large woollen and worsted- spinning mills in Derbvdale, near Huddersfield. England, arrived at Auckland by the Marama from Sydney on a holiday visit to New Zealand. Messrs W. B. Matliieson, of Eketahuna, and H. B. Stuckey, of Dannevirke, who recently returned to the Dominion from a visit overseas, were welcomed at Wednesday’s meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Mr F. S. Dyson, district engineer for the Public Works Department at Tauranga. has received notice of transfer as district engineer to Dunedin. Mr Dyson has been 2S years with the department. He joined as a cadet at the head office in Wellington and has occupied positions as assistant engineer on the west coast of the South Island, in Canterbury, in the Taranaki district, and as engineer at Napier and Tauranga. He has been stationed at Tauranga for the past 74 years, and has been largely' engaged in connection with the construction of the East Coast railway and extensive road I works.
The Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) and Mrs Archer returned to Christchurch last evening from their holiday in South Otago. Mr Keppel G. Archer, secretary of Messrs Andreae and Co., Ltd., woolbuyers, Christchurch, has received notice of his appointment as manager of the company for New Zealand. Passengers by the Wahine this morning included Col Simpson and Dr \ alintine, Director-General of Health. Mr E. S. Bowie was yesterday admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by his Honor Mr Justice Adams, on the motion of Mr C. S. Thomas. Dr A. W. Hill, director of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, Dr L. Cockayne, and Mr E. Phillips Turner, Secretary to the Department of Forestry, left Christchurch for Wellington last evening. The Rev .J. Robertson and Mrs Robertson have returned from Peel Forest, where they spent the vacation. Mr Robertson will resume his. ministry at the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church to-morrow. A civic reception is to be given to the Deputy-Premier of Queensland (Mr W. i Forgan Smith) on February 10, but | such will not be the case with regard j to the Premier of New South Wales (Mr T. R. Bavin), that gentleman having requested that no civic reception be i given him. | Mr X. J. Murphy, who left Christchurch last week for Auckland to join the New Zealand navy, is the fifth son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Murphy, 148, Carlyle Street. During the past 14 months he has been in the employ of Messrs Geo. Anderson and Co., Colombo St., Christchurch, who presented him with a wristlet watch suitably inscribed as a memento of their good wishes for his future welfare. Mr George Herbert, second officer of the Tamahine, has been appointed Marine Superintendent of the Lake Wakatipu Government Ferry Service, and will take up his residence in Queenstown, Mr Herbert has been an officer of the Union S.S. Company for many years, and had a lengthy connection with the Wellington-Picton
