CRICKETERS HURT IN AUCKLAND GAMES.
THREE CAPTAINS HAVE TO LEAVE FIELD
(Special to the “ Star.”} AUCKLAND, December 19. Senior cricket matches at Eden Park on Saturday provided a chapter of accidents, captains of three teams having to leave the field during the course of play, and medical attention being necessary in two cases. C. A. Sneddcn, captain of the Grafton cricket team, received an injury when fielding on Saturday, and was unable to take his place again for the remainder of the opponents’ innings. 11. D. Gillespie, the leader of Eden, was struck on the thumb by a ball, the thumb being dislocated and split. The injury I may prevent him taking his place against Otago on Saturday week. An injury was also sustained by H. Duncan, captain of Parnell. Duncan was responsible for the dismissal of E. H. Bowley in the match against Y.M.C.A. Feilding at mid-off, he thrust his hands forward toward the ball. and. although he held it, he split one of his fingers so badly that he had to go to hospital to have it attended to.
