TWO LOST WHEN DINGHY, CONTAINING FOUR, CAPSIZES.
SURVIVORS RESCUED IN EXHAUSTED STATE. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 17. A double drowning is feared as the result of the capsize of a sailing boat off French Bay, near Titirangi, late last evening. Mr Francis, of New Lynn, and a seven-year-old boy named Huyton, were still missing at an earlyhour this morning. The boy's father and Mr William K. Munro, both residents of New Lynn, who were also in the boat at the time, were rescued with difficulty. Huyton was suffering seriously from the effects of immersion and is being nursed at a house in French Bay. Mr Munro also came perilously near to drowning, but recovered more quickly. The boat, a dinghy with a sail up, was observed to capsize at about 8.30 p.m. when a few hundred yards from the shore. The rescuers immediately put out in a rowing boat but were successful in finding only Messrs Huyton and Munro. Dragging operations conducted by the police were unavailing up to 10 am. to-day. The names of the drowned are:— Victor Francis, married, and Robert Huyton, aged seven. The boat was found on the beach this morning near Titirangi Point, in Manukau Harbour.
