The House of Lords carried by 35 Totes to 29 Lord Carson’s amendment deleting contracting out, regarding compensation claims under the Landlord and Tenant Bill, despite the Lord Chancellor's warning on behalf of the Government that it would practically kill the object of the Bill. Another amendment against the Government resulted in 18 votes being cast for and 18 votes against, and was defeated by the Lord Chancellor's casting vote.
