MAYOR IS PRAISED BY MANUFACTURER
! Referring to the necessity for understanding each other’s difficulties, when j proposing the toast of “Town and j Country” at the annual meeting of the i Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association | last night, Mr F. L. Hutchinson said ! that an example of this spirit had come under his personal notice recently in the way the Mayor and his colleagues had approached a problem. The Art Society had lost its license to use the Art Gallery as a dancing j hall. The Mayor, in dealing with the 1 matter had called together three racm- , bers of the Art Gallery Council, and ! three residents of the neighbourhood to meet three members of the City Council. Together they were to try and arrive at a solution of the problem —surely a wise action on the part of the Mayor and his colleagues.
