ANTICIPATIONS FOR WAIPA MEETING.

DELIGHTMENT IS FANCIED AT TE AWAMUTU. (By “MARTIAN.”) The Waipa Racing Club will hold its annual meeting at Te Awamutu tomorrow. Fields are very large, and some interesting racing should be witnessed. As a preliminary to contesting the Auckland Cup, a number of northern owners are giving their horses a tryout in the Te Awamutu Cup, and a very fine race should eventuate. A number of the contestants have form to recommend them, and their running on Saturday will b© closely watched. Te Monanui (9.12) heads the list, and, considering that he carried 9.5 to victory in the Metropolitan Handicap against much stronger company and for a quarter of a mile more than tomorrow's race, he is going to be a tough customer to head off. Te Kara is a possibility with 9.0, but Delightment (8.4) should account for King Lu and Pegaway, both with the same weight. Mosaic will have to be considered. Phaola, Eden Hall and Transformer have been awarded 7.11. The firstnamed won nicely at Takapuna, and is very well, but Eden Hall has not run up to expectations in his recent efforts. Transformer is expected to play a prominent part in the decision of the race, and he should get some of the money. Gala Day is in with the handy weight of 7.7, and should go a good race, while Mint Leaf and Papatu will have their admirers. The best of the light-weights, however, appears to be Desert Glow, who was unlucky in not winning the cup at Taumarunui, in which he took second money. Summed up, the winner should come from— DELIGHTMENT, TE MONANUI, TRANSFORMER. The card opens with the Pirongia Handicap Hurdles, in which Lord Star, fresh from his successful performances at Taumarunui, when he ran a first and a close second, will again be in strong demand. Gold Rep ran third in each of his starts at Taumarunui, and is bound to race well to-morrow, while Ilighflown is a jumper of much promise. In the Kihikihi Handicap, Dayguard, who won two races at Taumarunui last Monday, is engaged, and, despite a penalty, has only to start to be prominent. Awarere is in good trim, and can be relied upon for a good effort, while New Moon Should be all the better for recent racing, and should be handy in the run to the judge. They aj*e mostly an unknown lot in the Waipa Plate, and there is a chance of a big dividend. Mauriaena Iras run some promising races lately, and should be prominent, while Lord Abbej’ and Flying Tresses appeal most of the others.

If reserved for the Paterangi Handicap, Siaosi should take a hand in the settlement- of affairs, but it will take .him all his time to finish in front of Wenday, who showed at Taumarunui that he is returning to his best form, being a good second to Day Guard in the President’s Handicap, Siaosi being third. War Officer should do best of the others.

Orchus should show up in the Orakau Hack Handicap, in which Abbey Day and High Rose also have form to recommend them.

The Flying. Another fine field will line up for the Flying Handicap, several being popularly fancied for the Railway Handicap at the Auckland meeting. Aussie, even with 9.13, will have hosts of friends, while Paganelli (9.3) and Nancy Lee (9.2) have raced so well of late that they must be held in the highest respect. Then there is Macroom and Value, both of whom are improving sorts, while Archecn is due. However, when the numbers go up those likely to be prominent are;— AUSSIE. PAGANELLI, NANCY LEE. The meeting will close with the Ohaupo Handicap, and if reserved for the event Macroom. New Moon and Day Guard should fight out the finish. The following is the programme - PIRONGIA HURDLE HANDICAP, of 110 sovs. One mile and a half.
