WAS READY TO HELP MR ELL IN ANY EMERGENCY.

“ LUSTY HIGHLANDER ” OFFERS ASSISTANCE

One of the letters that Mr H. G. Ell prizes highly, although he realises that it has its humorous side, was received from an unknown friend (whose identity cannot be divulged) a few days ago, in the following terms:— Dear Mr Ell, —I have been in New Zealand sixteen years, and now am a householder in Christchurch. I have admired your work ever since walking on the Summit Roads created by your thought and labour. I tell everybody that this town can never repay you for your artistic thoughts, which have been put into concrete form, and the Rest House, built with such care and detail. Yours is the brain that created all these beautiful things, and once again I admire j*ou. But to get to the point where I can assist you: I am a born fighting man, being blessed with a perfect physique, and, being Scotch, could muster quite a number of lusty Highlanders to defend you from any degrading attack that brainless people should launch against your life work. A ring on the phone ( during the day or in the evening) will bring me to your residence within hall an hour. / .-
