CONFERENCES HELD BETWEEN COUNCIL AND FRUIT MEN.

BARROW LICENSE QUESTION TO COME BEFORE COUNCIL AGAIN. The question of fixing the conditions for the granting of licenses for fruit and vegetable barrows will be considered at a meeting of the By-laws Committee of the City Council this afternoon. Several additional applications for licenses were received by the town clerk. With a view to overcoming the difficulties that have arisen between the growers and the retailers, conferences are proceeding between representatives of the City Council and the parties concerned, but the proceedings are of a confidential nature. Notice of motion was given by Cr J. W. Beanland to-day, that the motion passed at Monday night’s meeting of the Council that licenses' be issued lor fruit and vegetable barrows, be rescinded. This means that the matter is likely to be fully discussed again, at the next meeting of the Council on December 19.
