INQUEST HELD ON DEATH OF INFANT.

The death of Marie Dorothy Wilke, a child aged fifteen months, was the subject of an inquest which was held yesterday before Mr If. P- La wry, Coroner. The child died in the Lewisham Hospital about 5.30 p.m. on Monday. The inquiry was adjourned in order that a post-mortem examination might be made.

Marguerite Therese Wilke, mother of the deceased child, stated that the child had been quite normal during its life, until a few weeks ago, when it developed a cold, which was apparently not serious. The child had never had any other illness. Its condition became slightly worse, and Dr Searle, of Rotherham, w’as called in, but he said there w'as nothing wrong with the infant except the cold. He took a blood test the next day, and said the child was very anaemic. On Monday last witness did not think the progress of the child -was rapid enough, and she asked him to call on Tuesday. The child did not seem to be so well on Monday evening, and was getting much worse on Tuesday morning, and witness called the doctor urgently at 9.30 a.m. lie came immediate!)'', and ordered the child to be sent to Dr Douglas Anderson immediately. The child was brought to Dr Anderson on Tuesday, who sent her at once to Lewisham Hospital, where she was carefully examined-
