THEY CHOPPED OFF PART OF THE HALF.

(Special to the “ Star. ) AUCKLAND, June 22. A number of Ratana’s faithful followers in the far north got into a dispute with Church of England Maoris over a. meeting-house in which the natives had common rights. The Ratana-ites wanted the ests separated, but how this could be done was a problem until one fine day they solved it very simply by going in a body and chopping fourteen feet off the meeting-house and removing the severed part to their own site. The Church of England Maoris iestrained themselves from rising violence, but a complaint was laid against the Ratana-ites, who appeared m Court at Ilohora on Monday and were bound over to keep the peace. On a charge of causing wilful damage, they were admitted to probation, one condition being that they reinstated the meetinghouse within two months.
