MAN FINED £lo FOR TELLING PEOPLE HE WAS A DETECTIVE.

(Special to the “Star”) AUCKLAND. June 21. Alexander Mulholland, aged thirtytwo, this morning was fined £lO arid witnesses’ expenses for assuming the designation of a detective, not being a member of the force. Titus M’Kenna. of Ellerslie, said that he and a friend went into the Imperial Hotel after Saturday’s trots. Accused asked witness there for his name and address, which he persisted in taking, entering, it in a race book and borrowing M’Kenna’s pencil for the purpose. He was told that Mulholland was not a detective and somebody in the bar called a constable, who arrested accused. The defence was that Mulholland for a joke had posed as a detective.
