GARDEN PARTY.

t SUMNER FUNCTION. ”i\ most successful garden partv was -icld on Thursday afternoon in the spacious grounds of “ Brantholme,” Mrs Isaac Wilson's residence. The gardens were looking their best, and several attractively laden stalls were placed round the larger lawn in the shade of some weeping willows, their green drooping branches making an effective background for the bright colours on the stalls. The function was arranged by the local branch of the British Sailors’ Society, and the promoters should be more than pleased with the success of their efforts. Messrs Norton and of Lyttelton, and J. M’Combs, of Sumner, all spoke eulogising the work of the ladies in and around Christchurch in connection with the Seamen’s Institute, and spoke of the good results which followed the interest taken in the men who visited these shores. Mr Norton also passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Wilson for the loan of her beautiful grounds, and to the ladies who had arranged the various stalls and the musical programme. The following stall-holders were in charge of the various stalls: Yariety—Mrs Lee and Mrs Roswell. Produce—Mrs Barber and Miss Barker. Sweet stall—Mrs Forrest. Mrs Gough, Mrs E. Brown, Mrs Crosby, and Mrs Coe. Cake stall—Mrs Cheshire, Mrs Trerise, Mrs Dant and Mrs Power. The following contributed to a most enjoyable musical programme:—Mrs W. L. Cook (songs), Mrs Brake (songs), Mrs Owen (songs), Miss Cunningham (monologue), Mrs Scrimshaw (song), Miss Bvllee Brown (recitation), Misses Elise Crosby and Marjorie Chambers (dances). Amongst those present were:—Mesdames Nicholson, Da we, Merry, Klingenstein, Cheshire, Lawrence, Barber, Gardiner, Lee, Bates, Thomas, E. Brown, Hampton, Gorton, Mulcock, Crosby, Coe, Heslop, Hunnibell, Tait,' Roswell, Trerise, Merry. Cumow (Lyttelton), Minty, Hatch well, Forrest, Power, Dart, Field (Ashburton), Gough, senr., Gough, junr., Owen, Climie, Ager, Wethey, Thomson, Weir, Brake, Cook, Gray, Thornley, Whitfield, Nicholson, Mathew, Booth, Ogier, Unwin, Ford, ‘ Menlove, Misses Fowler, Thomas, Overton, Hampton,'Lawrence, Messrs W. H. Nicholson, J. M’Combs, Miller, Norton, and Buttle.
