TRANSFORMER AT THE SUB-STATION BADLY DAMAGED,
At 9.16 p.m. yesterday, one of the transformers at the municipal electricity department’s sub-station in Madras Street South burned out, and considerable damage was done to the transformer. The City Fire Brigade was called to the sub station, and prevented further damage. The mishap caused the lights in part of the inner area of the city to go out for a period of eight minutes.
While the brigade was at the substation, a malicious false alarm, given at 9.27 p.m., came from the corner of Rolleston Avenue and Hereford Street.
