FIRE DESTROYED VALUABLE STOCK.
BRIGADE CALLED OUT 3.5 A.M. ON SUNDAY.
Much ■valuable stock was destroyed by fire in the premises of Free and Rosidlley, manufacturing chemists, early yesterday morning. . The business is carried on in a small building, part of which is wooden and part brick. It was the former which was gutted.
The partners to-day were unable to estimate the damage. The stock is insured for about £ISOO in the Royal Insurance Company.
The brigade was called out at 3-5 a.m. yesterday, but, though they
confined the blaze to the one portion of the building, practically all the stock is lost. Messrs Free and Roskihrey are unable to account for the outbreak. Mr Roskilley left the premises on Saturday, night about six, having worked overtime to cope with work in hand. They stated to-day that the. fire has occurred at an extremely unfortunate time, for they had a large number of orders to fill. Portion of the stock lost was to have been delivered to local firms today, and preparations were also in hand for filling North Island orders.
