REMOWN MAY BERTH AT FERRY WHARF.
FACILITIES OFFERED BY HARBOUR BOARD. There is now a possibility that when H.M.S. Renown visits Lyttelton o/i Saturday, March 19, she will occupy a berth, on the Gladstone Pier side of the. ferry wharf, instead of anchoring in the stfream. Mr Cyrus Williams, engineer to the Lytteljton Harbour Board, stated this morning that an invitation has been sent to the authorities’ to berth the Renown at the ferry wharf, but no reply lhad yet been recevi^d. The Renown is nearly SOOft long, but, ass the ferry wharf has a length of about SoOft, there will be no difficulty jn providing her with an adequate berth. The depth of water at the wharf is also quite ample. When the Renown visited Lyttelton with t!he Prince of Wales in 1920, the ferry wharf was being reconstructed. The Rjenown was given a berth at No. 6 jetty, which is about 150 ft shorter than tlhe warship.
The '(Renown is due to arrive in Lyttelton Ist 9 a.m. on March 19, and will leave (again at ten o’clock the same night -to continue her journey south wards. Jf it is decided to accept the Harbour Board’s invitation and berth her at the ferry wharf, it will be possible for a very much larger number ptjgsittoreQojgP onboard, _
