TIMARU RESENTS CRICKET CRITICISM.
STATEMENT OF MANAGER OF CANTERBURY TEAM STRONGLY OBJECTED TO. (Special to the “Star.") TIMARU, February 22. At a meeting of the South Canterbury Cricket Association held to-night strong exception was taken by members to the criticism by Mr M. O. Sinclair. manager of the Canterbury touring team regarding the state of the wicket in the Canterbury v- South Canterbury match played at Timaru. Mr T. Houlihan said that such a statement was decidedly unfair and undoubtedly in'bad taste. Mr D. M'Beath maintained that such criticism was a bad advertisement for the game in South Canterbury, and might lead to misapprehension regarding other visiting teams. ' Otner members also spoke strongly on the matter and a motion that Strong exception be taken to the remarks of Mr Sinclair as published was passed. A telegram was received from the chairman of the Auckland Cricket Association asking for support in a protest against the inclusion of Badcock in the New Zealand team for the tour of Eng-, land and after a short discussion it was agreed to support the protest. Arrangements for a match against the Melbourne touring team were finalised, Messrs T. W. Lynch and C. Roundhill being appointed umpires for the fixture.
