RUGBY UNION GETS READY FOR SEASON.

MONEY MATTERS DEALT WITH AT MEETING. A meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night was attended by Messrs A. E. M’Phail (chairman), C. W. Allard, W. Britten, R. W. Britton, A. Barrett, A- Duggan, St J. J. Dunne. W. Maxwell, C. S. M’Cully, R. H. North, E. V. Phillips and Dr W. S. Seed. An application by the Merivale Club for a. ground at Lancaster Park on Easter Saturday for the annual match with the Alhambra Club (Dunedin) was granted. The secretary of the Christchurch Domains Board stated that the proposal to have public conveniences in the North and South Maglet- Parks had been referred to the sports grounds committee for its consideration and report. Suggestions from the Junior Advisory Board were that in the under-fifteen-years competition there should be a conference between primary schools teachers in charge of football and the board, that a representative of the board be allowed a scat on the union executive: jyid that dressing accommodation should be provided for the polo ground in South Hag ley Park. The first suggestion was referred to the seventh grade committee, and the board to bring down plans: in reply to the second it was decided that as the board was still in an experimental stage the Question of direct representation should be deferred for a year. Decisions following on the third suggestion were that application be made to the High School Old Boys’ Association for use of their pavilion nearby, and that the Domains Board be asked if they could make arrangements for dressing accommodation. A letter from the Canterbury Hockey Association to the Lancaster Bark Board of Control was forwarded to the meeting. The letter asked for the use of a ground at. Lancaster Park. No action was taken. A draft copy of the annual report was discussed; also a sub-committee's report on rules governing insurance of pl&vers. Both matters will be dealt with at the annual meeting. It was decided to make a presentation to Messrs Page, Oliver and Merritt—footballers who were to leave with the New Zealand cricket team. The function will be held on Tuesday, March 8. The annual meeting was fixed for Tuesday, March 22. A letter was received from St Andrew's College Old Boys’ Association, asking that their constitution should be accepted. A clause in this provided that old students from Scots College (Wellington) and M’Glashan College (Dunedin) should be permitted to play for St Andrew's. After discussion members generally were of opinion that this provision would not be fair to open clubs nor to football in general. A motion was I passed agreeing with the constitution in all points save the one discussed.
