CANADA’S LEGATION AT WASHINGTON WILL HELP UNITE EMPIRE.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 25, 12.30 a.m.) OTTAWA. January 24. Discussing at. Toronto the statement “That the entry of the Dominions into diplomacy will impair the diplomatic unity of the Empire and therefore may threaten Imperial unity itself,"’ in an address to the Canadian Club on Monday. Mr Vincent Massey characterised the Legation he will shortly establish at Washington as “a necessity and not a luxury.” lie believed the new machinery would not weaken the tc. but would have the contrary effect. lie believed that the presence of several representatives of the King at Wa Kington responsible to a different Government, would provide an even greater unit}' amongst the Dominions. Me said that the functions of the Legation would be “the promotion of trade, the settlement of international questions, and other matters of public importance.”
