LEADING FLAYERS: PONSFORD’S GREAT RECORD. Excluding the South Australia v. New South Wales match, which was concluded this week, complete details of which have not yet come to hand, fourteen players have an average of over 50 runs ail innings in Sheffield Shield matches this season. W. H. Ponsford, who has played six innings for 963 runs, has the wonderful average of 160.5. 11. L. Hendry has an average of 100 (600 runs made in six innings), and J. R. Ryder has an average of 92.75. These three Victorians are well ahead of any of the other batsmen, next on the list being the Queensland player, L. O’Connor, with an average of 76.
