Mrs W. IT. Simpson, and the Misses Simpson, are spending a holiday at Dunsandel. Mr and Mrs Guy Cotterill, Merivale Lane, haA-e returned to Christchurch from a visit to Hanmer Springs. Mrs R. Pinckney, Holly Road, is the guest of the Misses Cox, Timaru. Mrs F. F. Neill, Albury, and Mrs S. R. Gillingham, Fairlic, are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Dr and Mrs Ritchie, Samoa, are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Miss Jane Donnelly, Riccarton, who Avas the guest of Mrs 11. Telford, Gisborne, has returned to Christchurch. Miss Sybil Thompson, Redcliffs, is the guest of Mr and Mrs Douglas Saunders, Eltham. Mr and Mrs J. O. Lord have returned to Christchurch from a holiday visit to Auckland. An enjoyable entertainment was gh'en the patients and staff at the Military Sanatorium on Tuesday afternoon, on the occasion of the visit of the Lauderigo Italian Band, at present touring the Dominion. The programme included 'Sahara,” “Barcelona,” “The Prisoner's Song,” and a number of others, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. The party was thanked for the entertainment. A surprise party organised by Mr and Mrs Gale, of New Brighton, A’isited Mrs E. Ford’s new home in St Albans on Tuesday night. Competitions, games and singing were enjoyed. Items were given by the follmving:— Songs, Mr and Mrs Scrimshaw and Miss Gale; duet, Misses Weavers; sword dance, Miss Phyllis Gale and Master Malcolm Linton. Those present were;—Mr and Mrs Gale, Mr and Mrs Ford, Mr and Mrs Cox, Mr and Mrs Scrimshawe, Mr and Mrs Curtis, Mr and Mrs Hobbs, Mrs Linton, Mr and Mrs Wilkinson, Misses Gale (2), Ford (2), Trist, Wilkinson, Weavers (2), Messrs Ford, Barnes and Linton. Invitations have been issued for a cabaret dance to be held in the Winter Garden on Friday, in aid of the Cadet Queen (Miss Nancy Gard’ner) in connection with the coming Military Pageant. Mr and Mrs George Murray-Aynsley (Fendalton) haA'e returned from a visit to the North Island. Mrs Ben Howell (Cave) will arrive in Christchurch on Monday to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs George Rhodes (Beverley, Fendalton). Miss Lulu Bean is visiting her sister, Mrs Douglas Macfarlane (Rafa Downs, North Canterbury). Mr and Mrs Kenneth Gresson .and family (Fendalton) have returned from Timaru. Mr and Mrs W. N. Seay have returned from Auckland and have taken up residence in their new home in Church Lane, Merivale. Mrs C. Lydall, England, and Mrs I. Raynes, Buenos Aires, are among the recent overseas visitors staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. James, Dunedin, arrived in Christchurch from the North this morning and are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs Godfrey Williams and family, of the yacht Surprise, who were making a brief stay in Christchurch, left this morning by car for Makarora, where they will spend an extended holiday. Mrs C. E. Johnston, Wai-iti Road, Timaru, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr and Mrs Alcoek, Dunedin, who were in Christchurch, arrived at the Bungalow, Timaru, yesterday. Dr and Mrs Allison, who were also there, motored back to Christchurch yesterday. Mrs R. Pinckney, who was in Timaru for the Temple-Chapman wedding, returned to Christchurch yesterday. The Misses Murdoch (Latter Street, Timaru), have returned to the South from a visit to Christchurch. The engagement is announced of Marjory Buxton Buckeridge, daughter of Mrs Albert Russell, of Kelburn, Wellington, to Noel Winearls, younger son of Mr and Mrs E. Atmorc, also of Wellington. ,
