WHEN ROSES ARE IN BLOOM.

The following poem, by Mrs Francesca V. Miller, of Chicago, has been awarded first prize in the rose poem contest by an American Rose Tournament Association : - There’s a Rambler on the trellis And a wild-rose in the hedge, With a gay and golden Marechal Neil Upon the arbors edge. There’s a Sweetheart bud At the window of my room, And my heart is singing . . . singing . . . Tor the roses are in bloom. Oh, the crimson of each sunset And the glowing pink at dawn. Royal colours of the roses Holding Court upon the lawn. Oh, the joy, the smiles, the fragrance, Off a land that knows no gloom. Just a peaceful, sun-kissed haven When the roses are in bloom !
