TENNIS TOURNEY ON UNITED COURTS.

LARGE NUMBERS PLAY IN CHRISTMAS TOURNEY.

A beginning ™ made on Saturday at the United Tennis Club’s courts with the tournament postponed from the previous week, and a considerable number of games in the two sections were played. The courts were in capital order, but the heat was trying at times. The light rain which fell in the afternoon had no appreciable effect on the programme of the tournament. Although the fixture was controlled by the United Club, entries were not confined t.o members, and n.bout one-third of the satisfactory total came from other clubs. The management was largely in the hands of Mr W. Goss, who was assisted by others, and the courts were kept busy. Some who had entered to play at Christmas were compelled to scratch, co that there was a number of walkovers, and the full number of courts available was not required. The tournament will be continued at nine o’clock to-day. The following are the results of Saturday’s play;— LADIES’ SINGLES HANDICAP.
