INTEREST KEEN IN CHESS CONGRESS PLAY.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 3. Great interest is maintained in the New Zealand Chess Championship Congress, play in which has now reached a critical stage, with the leaders playing against each other. The final section of Round 3 resulted as follows: - Dunlop A'. Davies, Queen’s Pawn Game, played on irregular lines. The game even at the adjournment. F'airburn v. Severne, Queen’s Pawn Game. Severne has soon a Bishop for a pawn, and just before the adjournment F'airburn resigned. Kelling v. Roberts. Sicilian Defence. Kelling is a piece up. Roberts defended stubbornly, but Kelling forced a Gyles v. Pleasants, Yiennas. Pleasants lost a pawn early in the game. A mixer] attack followed, and Gyles won. Miller v. Erskine, centre counter. Miller lost a piece, but has some compensation by way of an attack.
