ELLERSLIE RACES.
DERBY DAY. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 31. Racing will commence on the third day of the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting with the Ellerslie Handicap. Antrim Boy, who has not yet raced at the meeting, can run a solid mile, and he may share favouritism with Haze and Archeno, who have shaped well in recent engagements. On form, the topweights, Royai Ceres, High Finance and Cosmetic, are a good deal superior to the other juveniles engaged in the Midsummer Handicap. and will probably be most in demand. A useful field of hurdlers is carded for the New Year Hurdle Handicap. Backers may follow form and give, most support to Mia Bella, Royal Form and the Wedding March-Cureaform bracket. A good field is engaged in the Auckland Racing Club Handicap and the fancies may take a fairly wide range. Star Stranger is a. fit horse and he will be favourite. Te Monanui and Tanadees will also find good support. The trouble that prevented Commendation from running on Wednesday has passed and he recorded a good gallop at Ellerslie yesterday. The Limond gelding will only have to take his place in the field to be a firm favourite in the Great Northern Derby. Lysander and Battlement will be best supported of the others. The Newmarket Handicap should be a. good betting race, and the popular fancies should be. Limited,- High Pitch and Ballymoy 11. A good field is out for the Glasgow Handicap, and fancies will take a fairly wide range.. Papercliase, Mosaic and Eh Timi raced prominently on Wednesday and will receive solid support.
