THREE MEN DENY BURGLARY CHARGE.
CLOTH TAKEN FROM WELLINGTON PREMISES (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 24. Charged with having broken and entered the warehouse of Samuel Triester, Vivian Street, and stolen twentytwo%rolls of cloth and a cheque book • pf a total value of £209 18s, Edward May, a labourer, aged twenty-five, Eric Jones, a shop assistant, aged thirty and Albert James Olsen, a barman, aged thirty-one, appeared before Mr Page. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Triester stated that on the morning of November .10 he found that the back door of the warehouse and the office door had been forced. He missed a cheque book from the office and twenty rolls of silk, each 50yds long, and worth £9 a roll. A serge roll and a roll of gabardine weie also missing. The silk produced in Court was similar to that which he missed from his warehouse and he was positive it was his own. Jones had been employed by him as a presser in 1923. Witness did not know either of the others. Bodley, a publican of Palmerston North, said a man offered on November to send him silk at 9d a yard. He told the man there must be tjomethmg wrong with it, or he would not be selling it at that price. Witness went away to find out what it was worth, and when he got back to the bar another man had joined the first. Witness identified the first man as Olsen and the other as Jones. Witness took a sample of the silk to Sergeant Power and later identified the two men at the police station. Detective Barling said he visited Olsen and May at a house where they , were stopping, and taxed them with being in possession of stolen property They denied this, and also that they owned the two suit-cases in the room, saying the bags had been placed there by a man they did not know. At the police, station Olsen and May admitted having been with Jone*earlier in the day. The accused were committed for trial.
