“HIM DEAD THIS TIME ALL RIGHT.”
STRANGE OCCURRENCE AT KAIWHAIKI PA. (Special to the “Star.") WANGANUI. November 24. Considerable interest was aroused locallv in the strange occurrence at. Kaiwhaiki pa 'n regard to the Maori woman who teas supposed to have died on Monday, and who later showed signs of breathing while the body was stone cold, all except the face. A number of people visited the pa. All signs of life had ceased last evening, just over 4s hours from the time when she was laid out for dead. A young Maori, when questioned about the matter, said: “Him dead this time, all right. Dead on Monday, too. all right, but te tohunga keep the head part alive. Not want him to die until all the messages pass between them." A tangi is now proceeding without any uncanny interruptions, although it. is reported that some of the Maoris had an anxious time until all doubts were dispelled.
