ALLEGED TO BE MOTHER OF THE ABANDONED BABE

YOUNG WOMAN CHARGED IN BLENHEIM COURT. (Special to the “ Star.”) BLENHEIM, November 23. A woman believed to be the mother of the infant left on the steps of the Salvation Army Home at Christchurch on November 16 was arrested at Canvastown yesterday by Senior-Sergeant Clarkson, and appeared at the Police Court in Blenheim this morning. On the application of the police she was remanded to appear at Christchurch on Thursda3'. An order was made for the suppression of her name in the meantime. The accused is a young married woman, about thirty-two years of age living apart from her husband. It is understood that she visited Christchurch for a few days prior to November 16, and it is alleged that she took this opportunity to dispose of the child before returning to Marlborough.
