FRITY REACHED BY CITY COUNCIL.

PERMIT FOR OIL TANKS MAY BE ISSUED TO-DAY. “The matter will be dealt with in the ordinary course of dealing with the correspondence arising out of last night’s meeting, and the company will probably receive its permit to-day,” said the Town Clerk this morning when asked what was the present position in regard to the Vacuum Oil Company’s application for a permit for the installation of underground petrol storage tanks on a site at the corner of Ilazeldean and Park Roads, Addington. After four months of inquiry and discussion the council reached finality in the matter last night when a motion proposed by the Mayor that the previous decision that the permit be granted, be rescinded, was defeated by nine votes to seven. Councillor D. G. Sullivan, M.P., who had supported the Mayor previously, was the only absentee.

The original application was dated July 19, 1926, but after it had been decided to grant the permit, the decision was rescinded. A new application was made to the council about a fortnight ago, this being the one that has now been granted. The manager of the Vacuum Oil Company, when approached by a reporter this morning, said he preferred not to make any comment on the matter at the present stage.
