PIONEER OF ILLUSTRATED JOURNALISM PASSES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 22, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 21. The death is announced of Clement King Shorter, the well-known editor and author, aged sixty-nine. Mr Shorter was' pioneer of illustrated journalism, a profession for which he forsook the Civil Service. He was editor of the “ Illustrated London News,” and founded successively the “ Sketch,” “ Sphere ” and “ Tatlcr,” and edited the “Sphere” until his death. He was an authority on the life and works of the Bronte family and on the Napoleonic era, and was one of the founders of the Omar Khayyam Club. He was-also at one time president of the Johnson Club. He edited with rare ability in 1922 Boswell's Life of Johnson, a charming Norwich Edition of George Borrow’s Works in 1923, and a volume of Bronte stories in 1925. ITis first wife was Dora Sigerson, the distinguished poet. In I.92CLh.e married Miss Bahficld. .
