The spring meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Club, an important feature of Carnival Week, was opened at Addington to-day in fine weather, and with a large, attendance. The track was in the best of order and with good fields of high-class horses everything ■*r«s available for good racing. Starting on the last'lap Kola Boy Joined Lady Fan in the lead a. length in front of The Toff and Queen Ida with Pete Peter and Bundaberg close up. There was no change til] reaching the home turn where Lady Fan and The Toff dropped out. Kola Boy led into the straight from Queen Ida and Pete Peter, holding his place to the finish he stalled off a challenge by Pete Peter to win by half a length. Bundaberg was six lengths away third. and Sheik. Entering the back stretch Ahuriri put in a fast run, and three furlongs from home he was in second olace behind Prince Pointer, with Talaro next. Three lengths away came Acron, the others, who were headed by Alan o' War. being strung out. Prince Pointer led Ahuriri round the home turn. but. once fairly into the straight Ahuriri shot up with a fast run and went on to beat Prince Pointer easily by two lengths. Going along the back Berenice and Holly Boy were together, and they showed the way round the final turn to Diamond Child, Logan Holme and Double Event, with Taurekareka closing up fast. Holly Boy led into the straight, but Taurekareka. cut him down and won very easily by -a length. Holly Boy beat the fast-finishing Cardinal Logan by a length, with Diamond Child close up fourth. After the first race at Addington today the judicial stewards held an inquiry into a case of interference by Kola Boy, who crossed Lady Fan about three furlongs from home. N. L. Price, the driver of Kola Bov, was severely cautioned and fined £25 for careless driving. EXPLANATION ACCEPTED. After the St Albans Handicap the connections of Direct Wood, who was favourite for the event, were asked to explain the performance of the mare. J. McLennan, her rider, said she had lost ground at the start and was never afterwards able to pick it up. Mr G. J. Barton, owner of the mare, also gave evidence, and the committee accepted the explanation. J. BRYCE FINED. A meeting of the judicial committee was held after the Trotting Cup to consider a report by one of the stipendiary stewards on the driving of J. Bryce oil Ahuriri. After a lengthy inquiry Bryce was severely cautioned and fined £ls for interfering with Talaro when coming round the final bend.
