TROTTING HORSES AT BELFAST IN DANGER.
THREE STILL LEFT IN FLOODED PADDOCK
The Belfast trotting trainer, Mr J. J. Kennerlev, had another experience of the vagaries of the Waimakariri this morning. About three o’clock the water from the river came over his track and paddocks and in less than a quarter of an hour the whole area was flooded to a depth of several feet. Mr Kennerley’s first thought was to get out his horses, several of whom were badly frightened by the rushing water, and a good deal of difficulty was experienced in removing them. Finally, all the stabled horses were got out and those near the stable who were in the paddocks were also rescued. There arc three, however, still in the padd, ocks and the water is now so deep that it is impossible to approach them. Luckily, they made for the only partially dry part of the farm and Mr Kennerley hopes to get them this afternoon. Mr Kennerlev brought all his horses to town and they are now quartered at Mr G. W. Watkins’s stable in Edinburgh Street. Judging from some remarks made by the Belfast trainer on the Addington track this morning, it is more than probable that he will remove from Belfast and take over the stables where his horses are now situated.
